Welcome Weekend Parent Programming

All Transfer Parents are welcome to continue their Welcome Weekend experience by attending the outlined events as listed in the First Year Parents Schedule. In particular, please consider attending the Parents' Program, Academic Exploration Sessions, Rector and Hall Staff Welcome and/or the New Student Mass at your own discretion.

New Student Mass

The University of Notre Dame invites new students and families from all faith backgrounds to the Celebration of the Welcome Mass at the Joyce Center's Purcell Pavilion. Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., will preside and Rev. Peter McCormick, C.S.C., will preach.

Farmers Market and AcoustiCafé

Instead of taking you to the Farmer's Market, we've brought the South Bend Farmer's Market to you! Peruse the locally grown and crafted goods from area artisans and take in the sounds of Notre Dame's finest acoustic musicians at Fieldhouse Mall.

Food Truck Student Social

Hosted by Multicultural Student Programs and Services (MSPS), the Gender Relations Center (GRC), and the Office of Student Enrichment (OSE).

This event provides an opportunity for members of our community who reflect the diversity of our student body to connect with allies, network, and socialize with other new students.

An evening of fun events, important hall information, and bonding with your new fellow residents awaits! Hall Welcome Teams provide programming on both Saturday and Sunday evening, led by Captains and Ambassadors who have spent months thinking up exciting ways to welcome you to your new residence hall community.

ND Traditions & Pre-Grotto Reflection

Meet your transfer families in the LaFortune Student Center Ballroom to learn the inside scoop about Notre Dame traditions through a competitive-style game. Additionally, we will discuss the significance of the first trip to the Grotto in break out groups. There will be activities for individual and group reflection.

Come wind down before the Grotto trip with desserts! Meet in LaFortune Student Center to spend some time with other transfer students.

First Trip to the Grotto

This special night-time visit to the very heart of our campus gives students the chance to gather with their new classmates, roommates and friends to reflect on their hopes and goals as they begin their time at Notre Dame. We hope that this “first visit” will simply be the first of many.

Building Community the Notre Dame Way ☘️

This is the second component of the BCND training you completed over the summer--a group discussion in which you will discuss possible situations that could be harmful to yourself and others, practice the bystander intervention strategies utilized at Notre Dame, and learn about resources that help our community be a safe and welcoming campus for all.

At Building Community the Notre Dame Way, you will learn more in depth about your role as a member of the Notre Dame community. This event serves as a culmination of all of the activities that you have participated in throughout your time at Welcome Weekend that will further enhance your experience at Notre Dame.

NOTE: Gateway transfer students have already completed BCND and do not need to attend.

The Day of Community will introduce you to a wide array of organizations throughout the South Bend area, emphasizing service, education, and arts & culture. You will become familiar with the great work being done in South Bend and learn about opportunities to get involved during your time at ND. Destinations will be assigned per residence hall.
