Move In

Welcome to your Home Under the Dome! Residence halls serve as one source of community for Notre Dame students. You'll find that you will make friends in your residence halls from your transfer class, past transfer classes, and students of all years. New transfers have the privilege of being some of the first to arrive for the academic year. Enjoy Our Lady's famous "spirit of hospitality" as we welcome you to the Notre Dame family.

Welcome Registration

Time to kick off Transfer Welcome Weekend! Meet in McKenna Hall to meet your welcome committee and other transfer students. Here you will receive a folder with important information for the weekend ahead.

Welcome Mass

The University of Notre Dame invites Transfer Students and Parents from all faith backgrounds to the celebration of the Welcome Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Rev. Pete McCormick, C.S.C. will preside. Students will receive Notre Dame medals that are blessed during the ceremony and are welcome to join in on the Notre Dame Alma Mater at the end of mass. Please join us in full heart and voice!

President's Dinner in South Dining Hall following the Transfer Welcome Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Scavenger Hunt and Transfer Bonding Activities

Each transfer student is assigned a transfer family comprised of previous transfers to ND to help with the transition to life at Notre Dame. Meet your Transfer Family at the front of the Main Building and learn about campus from a different perspective with a scavenger hunt as you get to know each other.

Individual Advising Sessions

Transfer student attendance required. Students will receive the time and location of their advising session during the Class Registration and Enrollment Presentation at each respective college on Thursday. Advising sessions will assist you in course selection and registration to ensure you are meeting college requirements.

Campus Ministry Hot Dog Tent

After a long morning of moving into your new residence hall home, you've definitely earned yourself a hot dog! Swing by the Campus Ministry Hot Dog Tent on South Quad to say hello to some of the friendly faces that will help you along your faith journey while a student at Notre Dame.

Official University Welcome

Join your fellow classmates and family members in this can't-miss welcome event at Purcell Pavilion. The Official University Welcome will kick off your career as a Notre Dame student with the Class of 2021! Featured guests will include University President, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., Vice President of Student Affairs, Erin Hoffmann-Harding, Dean of the First Year of Studies, Dr. Hugh Page, Student Body President and Vice President, Becca Blais and Sib Shewit, the Notre Dame Combined Choirs, and the Notre Dame Marching Band.

Join the Transfer Welcome Committee in the LaFortune Ballroom to learn about the Notre Dame traditions you will encounter campus-wide.

Ice Skating and Broomball

Meet in the Compton Family Ice Arena, home of the Fighting Irish Hockey Team, for a fun night of ice skating and broomball with your new peers! Explore one of ND's athletic facilities and the traditions it represents. Free skate rentals are available from Compton and snacks will be provided.

Wellness Run/Walk and Yoga

Welcome Weekend is a fun and exciting time for students and families alike! To help you "take it all in," join McDonald Center for Student Well-Being and RecSports to start your weekend mornings by giving yourself a moment to reflect, relax, and recharge at your choice of two wellness events - yoga or a group walk. All are welcome - no previous experience is necessary and mats will be provided. See you bright and early on South Quad!

Hosted by the Division of Student Affairs and First Year of Studies, the Multicultural Reception is a chance for historically underrepresented students and allies to connect, network, and learn about opportunities and resources available on campus through various departments and cultural student clubs. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments provided.

One of the can't-miss events of Welcome Weekend, Domerfest provides a carnival atmosphere of fun, games, food, inflatables, and music for all first-year students. Make sure to wear your residence hall shirt to gain entrance and show your hall pride! Giveaways will happen at the end of the night so make sure you stick around. Sponsored by the Student Activities Office.

Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival.

New & Gold Scrimmage

Make your way to Notre Dame Stadium for a first look at the new and improved game day experience! The New & Gold Game will feature a Fighting Irish scrimmage, a performance by the Notre Dame Marching Band, and participation from the Notre Dame cheerleaders. Enjoy the latest stadium enhancements including new and wider seating, a Diamond Vision high-definition video board and sideline ribbon boards, upgraded concession stands, and a new concourse design.

One of Notre Dame's most cherished traditions - the First Class Trip to the Grotto. This special evening event allows students the chance to gather with the Class of 2021 to think back on the memories that brought them to Notre Dame, and reflect on the moments to come.

Building Community the Notre Dame Way is a required event for Transfer Students.

Now in its second year, the Day of Community will introduce you to a wide array of organizations throughout the South Bend area, emphasizing service, education, and arts & culture. You will become familiar with the great work being done in South Bend and learn about opportunities to get involved during your time at ND. Destinations will be assigned per residence hall.

Attend your first game at Alumni Stadium as a Domer and cheer on the Soccer Team as they take on the Valparaiso Crusaders. Go Irish!

Enjoy treats from local ice cream shop Kilwin's with your transfer peers and the Transfer Welcome Team. A sweet way to wrap up Transfer Welcome Weekend!
