Summer 2026: First-Year Student Timeline

May

  • May 4: All first-year students will receive a Welcome Letter from Vice President and Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, Fr. Dan Groody, C.S.C. Starting this day, some students will be able to activate their NetID. This log-in information will be used to access all Notre Dame online systems, as well as Notre Dame Gmail. Over the next few days, all incoming first-year students will receive an email from "Okta." Notre Dame uses Okta to manage IT services central to your life as a student. The email from Okta contains a unique link that will enable you to activate your NetID, access your new email account, and check your inbox daily. Not all Okta emails are sent at once. If you don't receive an email by May 4, do not worry. You'll receive it within the next few days. Need some help? Activate your Username (NetID) through Okta. Additionally, Okta two-step login requires you to use a second way to verify your identity before providing access to your account, install Okta Verify or Okta FastPass on at least TWO devices (e.g., smartphone, laptop, tablet) in case your primary device becomes unavailable.
  • May 5: All first-year students will receive a Welcome Letter from the centralized academic advising office. This letter will outline further upcoming Advising@ND emails, our tradition of integrative and personalized one-on-one academic advising, social media resources, and the Pre-Advising Academic Survey. Your response to the Pre-Advising Academic Survey will help your advisor provide you the guidance that you need based on your academic background and interests.
  • May 7: An invitation will be sent to take the ND Calculus Readiness Test to all first-year students. You may be required to take this test depending on your intended program of study.
  • May 8: All first-year students and their families will receive their first email from Welcome Weekend. To learn more about Welcome Weekend, visit welcome weekend.nd.edu. This letter will also outline further communication from the Division of Student Affairs that all new students will receive throughout the summer.
  • May 15: All incoming students are required to have health insurance coverage that meets University criteria. Students are automatically enrolled in, and charged for, the University sponsored health insurance plan, unless they complete the waiver between May 15 and June 15 with proof of insurance.
  • Mid-May: Sara Bea Accessibility Program is responsible for engaging with students with both visible and invisible disabilities to provide reasonable accommodations and ensure every student has equal access to the University’s facilities and programs. Students can visit the Student Health and Wellness website to learn how Notre Dame supports students with disabilities and discover the policies and programs designed to ensure equal opportunity and campus-wide access. The priority deadline for first-year housing accommodation requests is June 1. In order to request accommodations, students should follow these steps:
    1. Apply: Once enrolled and assigned a NetID, complete the Initial Accommodation Request form. If you require housing accommodations, you must also fill out the Housing Narrative Form.

    2. Review: Sara Bea Accessibility Program will review your request and medical documentation after the close of the current semester.

    3. Consult: A staff member will reach out to schedule an intake meeting with you to discuss potential accommodations.

  • May 19: Deadline to complete the Pre-Advising Academic Survey. Today, the new first-year student housing application is available. To receive your housing assignment on July 2, complete this application by June 25.

    • With housing assignments released, you can now begin to consider which sections of MOR 10101 are available to you. Since you must register for a MOR 10101 section that falls within your housing assignment’s “Moreau Neighborhood,” not all sections are available to you for registration. In July, follow this link to find your Moreau Neighborhood and identify the Moreau First-Year Seminar course sections (MOR 10101-XX) available to you.
    • First-year students will receive detailed move-in information, and how to sign-up for an arrival time from Residential Life in early July. Students participating in the ND Math Credit Exam should sign up for an arrival time between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. For more information about move-in and arrival to your residence hall please click here.
  • Week of July 6: Review the Minimum Recommended Laptop Specifications for Students. • July 8 - 13: Final Registration Preparation

    • Review the How to register using NOVO video.

    • Contact your academic advisor if you have questions about your course selections.

    • Find your Moreau Neighborhood and identify the Moreau FYS course sections (MOR 10101-XX) available to you.

    • Make sure you have arranged for access to a reliable internet connection. If you won't have access to the internet when your time ticket becomes active, you will still be able to register for courses until 11:59 PM EDT on the day of your time ticket activation or beginning 11:59 PM on July 15. If you will not have internet access at all during the registration period, please contact your advisor.

    • Double-check that your PATH plan isn’t showing any potential registration errors. Seats in some courses will be opened gradually over the course of registration week so do not worry if courses in your plan are showing as full right now. There is a chance they could be open when it is your time to register.

    • Make a list of your CRNs for all of the courses you plan to register for, even if they are already in your PATH plan.
